01 / Prepare
Before you start
This VicoHome bird feeder manual covers cameras supplied for the VicoHome app. Check the model label and the app named in your printed guide first: similar-looking feeders can use different apps, buttons, and services.
- Match the app. If your guide names VicoHome, use the VicoHome app for iPhone or Android. If it names Vico Nature or another app, follow that model’s instructions; do not assume the apps or subscriptions are interchangeable.
- Gather the basics. Have your home Wi-Fi password, the supplied charging cable, a suitable USB adapter, mounting hardware, and an optional compatible microSD card ready.
- Check the hardware. Locate the power button, reset opening, charging port, and card slot using your model’s diagram. Do not force a camera module or cover open.
02 / Position & power
Charge, assemble, and choose a spot
- Fully charge indoors. Use the supplied cable and the adapter rating specified for your camera. Let the charging port dry before plugging in. Charging times and light colors vary by model.
- Fit the feeder parts. Attach the perch, roof, and bracket as shown in your guide. Keep the lens and motion sensor clear, and close the port covers securely.
- Test before fixing the bracket. Complete pairing below, then check live view at the intended location. Use the included wall, tree, or pole hardware only where suitable; confirm the feeder is stable before filling it.
- Place the solar panel in direct sun. Keep it clear of branches and roof shade. In the Northern Hemisphere, a south-facing position is a useful starting point. Secure the cable and seal the connection as instructed.
03 / Connect
Add the feeder to the app and Wi-Fi
The Wi-Fi feeders covered by the N002 and V1-VN-DB01 guides use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A 5 GHz-only network will not work with these models. Keep the camera and phone near the router for the first connection.
- Sign in and add a device. Open VicoHome, tap +, and choose the option to add a new camera or device.
- Enter pairing mode. Power on the camera and follow its model-specific sound or indicator prompts. Use the button sequence in the supplied guide.
- Enter your Wi-Fi details. Select the supported home network and carefully enter its password. Allow Bluetooth or nearby-device permissions if the app requests them for your pairing method.
- Complete the displayed method. For QR pairing, show the phone’s generated code to the camera lens and adjust the distance until it confirms the scan. For Bluetooth-assisted pairing, select the detected camera and follow the prompts; the camera still needs Wi-Fi.
- Confirm live view. Name the feeder, open its video, then retest the connection at the mounting spot before securing it.
Model example: the N002 guide describes holding Power for three seconds, then double-pressing it to enter Wi-Fi mode. Use this sequence only if it matches your hardware guide. For more pairing detail, see connecting a VicoHome camera.
04 / Everyday controls
Storage, playback, and notifications
Open the gear icon for your feeder to reach Camera Settings. Menu names can vary with the app version and model.
Local storage
Prepare a microSD card
Power off before inserting or removing a card. The N002 and V1-VN-DB01 guides specify up to 128 GB; confirm your own model’s limit. Use a genuine Class 10 or faster card and the supported FAT32 format.
Open Camera Settings → SD Card Management to check recognition and format if needed. Formatting erases the card, so copy important clips first.
Event recording
Capture bird visits
Enable Motion Detection and check any sleep schedule. Adjust sensitivity gradually to capture birds without excessive triggers from nearby movement.
Battery feeders record motion events. A solar panel or SD card does not enable 24/7 recording. Recording length and cooldown options depend on the model and plan.
Review & save
Find your recordings
For local clips, open Library → SD Card, select the feeder and date, then play a recorded event. Some versions use Camera Settings → SD Card Video or a playback timeline.
For cloud clips, choose the camera and date in Library. Cloud history depends on the active offer or plan. Save wanted clips before they expire or the card overwrites them.
Phone alerts
Choose what reaches you
Check both Camera Settings → Notification Settings and your phone’s notification permission for VicoHome. Review any alert schedule or Do Not Disturb setting.
If available, enable the bird notification option, sometimes called Bird Fans. Smart filters and Activity Zones depend on supported hardware and service; they are separate from basic motion detection.
05 / Identify visitors
Bird recognition and subscriptions
Watching live video, recording to a supported SD card, and receiving basic motion alerts do not require an Awareness subscription. Automatic species identification is a separate feature: the feeder must support it, and the relevant service must be active for that camera.
In VicoHome, check User → Awareness and the covered devices. Enable motion detection and the available bird notification option. Keep the lens clean and the perch in view; lighting, angle, and image quality affect identification. See the VicoHome subscription guide for free features and billing help. If your feeder uses Vico Nature, check its own plan screen and family-sharing terms.
06 / Watch together
Share the feeder with family
- Use the owner account. Open the feeder’s Share option from Home or Camera Settings, then choose Device Sharing or Invite to generate a sharing QR code.
- Invite a separate account. The other person signs in to the same app and selects Add Friend’s Device or the equivalent sharing option to scan your code. Approve the request when prompted.
- Check access. Shared users have limited permissions; settings, SD playback, and paid features may differ from the owner’s access. Review shared users in the owner’s Share screen to remove access later.
Use the sharing code shown in the app, rather than the QR label on the camera. Keep invitations private and generate a fresh code if one expires.
Quick help
Bird feeder FAQ
Why won’t the feeder connect to Wi-Fi?
Check the app named in your manual, the supported Wi-Fi band, and the password. Move close to the router and re-enter pairing mode using your model’s instructions. For QR pairing, clean the lens, reduce screen glare, and change the phone-to-camera distance. Test live view indoors before troubleshooting the garden signal.
Why can I watch live video but find no recordings?
Check motion detection, sleep schedules, battery level, and the selected camera and date. Look in SD Card Video for local clips and Library for cloud clips. Confirm that the SD card is recognized or that the cloud offer is active. Watching live video alone does not prove an event was saved.
Why are birds recorded without a species name?
Confirm bird recognition is supported and the camera has an active entitlement. Check the bird notification setting, then review whether the bird is clearly visible. A motion clip can be saved even when identification fails.
Why does the battery fall while the solar panel is connected?
Check for shade, dirty panels, loose connectors, and frequent camera activity. Solar charging varies with weather and temperature. Fully recharge by USB, reposition the panel for direct sun, and monitor the battery over several days.
Can I use the feeder without a subscription?
Yes, for supported basic features such as live view, motion alerts, and local SD recording. Bird identification and extended cloud history depend on your edition and plan. Check any trial’s renewal terms before activating it.
How do I refill or clean the feeder?
Follow your model’s release and roof-latch instructions. Disconnect external power and close port covers before cleaning. Keep water away from the camera and electronics, and let the seed compartment dry fully before refilling and reassembling.
